The "Walled City" of old Manila is now a historical site of restored buildings, museums, antique shops and restaurants. Within Intramuros are: Fort Santiago -- The Spanish garrison which was converted into a park and shrine to the country's national hero, Dr Jose Rizal; San Agustin Church -- church with a beautiful trompe l'oeil ceiling and collection of religious art; Manila Cathedral -- the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese; Casa Manila Museum -- a reconstructed home of a wealthy 19th century; just to name a few.

At Fort Bonifacio (a military installation) is the American Memorial which is a park and shrine to American and Filipino soldiers who fought during World War II.
